The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that “antimicrobial resistance threatens the very core of modern medicine and the sustainability of an effective, global public health response to the enduring threat from infectious diseases;” and in 2015, the World Health Assembly adopted a global action plan on antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial resistance has been identified as a multidisciplinary issue that has the potential to impact the activities of a range of industries, including the management of wastewater and wastewater products such as recycled water and biosolids.
